Rep Power: 10 | doom3 (flop?) Who got a chance to play doom3?
Single player was awesome but got boring fast, and multiplayer was just so damn laggy and buggy.
Did anyone expect more? |

Rep Power: 5 | Re: doom3 (flop?) i dont like many games these days, every game is just going for the best graphics where as i would like better game play, and thats hard to come by in first person shooters
sonic 2 = best game ever
quake 3 = best fps ever
doom 3 should have had more gameplay, the story has benn done over in over, same as doom2 and red faction. But i can see some great games coming out of the doom 3 engine, say in about 2 years time when most people can run doom on high and they start bringing out multiplayer games on the doom 3 engine, thats what im waiting for |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: doom3 (flop?) In my opinion Doom 3 was a great improvement on its style of play. I call its style creepy fps. Its intention is immersion, and from start to finish I was engulfed in the story, and immersed in the action. The graphics are by far the best graphics any fps has come out with, while sustaining playability. Far Cry had equal graphics but they sacrificed a little playability in achieving those graphics. The monsters in Doom 3 were well written, and very determined to kill you. Unlike previous games where they would attack, fall back, then attack again. In Doom 3 they keep at you until one of you is dead, which makes the game challenging.
This game was slated as a single person only with a four person multiplayer capabilities added on to appease the masses. I've played the multiplayer over lan, and on the internet, and there is no comparison. The internet is too slow to handle the throughput that the game requires, but playing it on a lan is sweet. They did do a great job in putting out a modable infrastructure though, and I believe that is where the game is going to shine the most. I'm really anticipating some die hard mods to come out, and a stand alone multiplayer mod that will reinstate it as a net capable game. |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: doom3 (flop?) yeah i heard that the new quake will be using the doom3 engine so that will be sweet.
but atm like alpha said, the game is way to powerful for the average gamer.
even with todays fastest pc's the game cant be ran at its best, they say when the next generation of 512mb gfx cards r released things will improve alot.
so fingers crossed.
hopefully half life2 will be better. |

| This is a popular trend, and one that isn't going to go away any time soon. From what I understand of the 'industry', the graphic cards are getting quite scarce, at least the high end ones. Both Nvidia's and ATI's top of the line are all backordered, because the memory they use are not being made any longer. Halflife 2 will also take advantage of "future technology", just like EQ2, and Doom 3. That future technology, I would say is a year or so away, but the coders have the tools to create it before the present cards can handle it. Which is a good thing I believe. |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: doom3 (flop?) well i played doom3 with my old 9800xt card and my new 6800ultra card, and the 6800 runs the game smoothly.
But i also have the thermaltake aquarius 2 watercooling kit running on both my cpu and graphics card, which keeps my whole pc running at 2 degree's continously.
It doesnt matter how fast your hardware is, if u cant keep it cool then u r going to have problems, big problems. My friend who also has the 9800xt card has problems with his card hitting very high temperatures, but some people r reluctant to get watercooling for their pc's hehe, maybe because u need to take alot of caution and its not cheap. |
