A benchmark tests all your hardware to the max and gives u a result. U can then compare these to other peoples results.

Maybe i shouldnt have posted my benchmark first hehe

It basically gives you a idea of how powerful your machine is, mostly based on how well it can display graphics etc.

I'll reinstall 3dmark and give it a run later today then post my results
