Ok ok, get ready have a chuckle at Monks expense.Ive just gone through a full re formatt, and every thing has been going really well.System is sharp and fast, doing every thing I want of it except for thing........IT WONT SHUT DOWN

serious, I have tried everything I could find using google, but this bloody thing just dont wanna go to bed.It will go to standby mode but not Shut down or restart.Im hoping I dont have to install windows again, so does anyone have an answer to help out Uncle Monk...thanks troops

goto control panel --> power options --> advanced

What does it say in the power buttons options?

So does the pc hang and give u error messages when u shut down or does it just not respond to shutting down.

Do u get the blue screen which says the pc is shutting down?

Just try to Hold the Power Button Down.........
(i know that's basic, but that's the root of how i shut my computers down)

Are you running a lappy? Are you running a desktop? If you're running a desktop.. there's usually a nice switch on the power supply you can hit :P

But turning off your desktop without going through the shut down process can cause serious issues with your windows operating system.

Monk, after u installed a clean install of windows XP what programs did u install?
