Hi all,
I admin for the ford cortina car club here in Oz, hoping to get some insights into phpbb and vb3. We also use a custom bridge into coppermine photo gallery, including scripts for cpmfetch and milonic menu sytems. Time for a website revamp and a more professional approach.
I travel Australia with my job, i am a H.V. transformer technician, its nice to see Oz at the bosses expense, lol.
Unfortunately i dont have the time required to revamp the site and require a developer, can someone please help.

Welcome man,

Anything you need, we have it all. Since you are looking for a new site design I would like to point you to the free quote page, which is located at..

Bluepearl Design - Professional Web Design

Also I am curious to what you would like your site design to say? Do you have a color choice in mind, or anything special you would like the design to have?

If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask.

Re: fordcortina.com.au

Hey wasahobo, thanks for the reply.
Firstly i've been considering an upgrade from phpbb forum to vb3 but i still need to keep the member database which was part of the geeklog structure and retain the common login to the coppermine gallery.
I started the cortina website in christmas 06 with the coppermine gallery and added sections there after but the gallery has always been the most popular part of the site.

A revamp sounds simple but from the dramas i had with the bridge, i think its outta my league. First we looked at the popular aspects of the site and drop off the unused sections.

As far as a design goes, we considered just a new homepage using some pictures we hope to get from a new photo shoot coming up soon. One of our members has the front page on this months Zoom magazine and we hope to use some of those pics as well.
MarkZe Zoom Magazine
Colours most probably ford blue with silver highlights. Although a decent layout in black would match the gallery.

Design layouts, i like the idea used on this site with the tabs across the top for navigation. Tabs for home, gallery, forums, flashchat, maybe 1 more for links or contacts.

I have asked on the contact section about a revamp and hope to hear back soon.

Dave

Re: fordcortina.com.au

Hey mate, Welcome to the site.

If your going to port from phpBB2 to vBulletin you should maybe think about also porting your gallery from coppermine to either vbgallery or photopost as both of these scripts automatically bridge with vBulletin saving you alot of headaches in the future especially when it comes to updates and what not.

Re: fordcortina.com.au

And i forgot to mention, with the porting scripts that come with Photopost this process shouldnt be too hard. (hopefully) hehe

Re: fordcortina.com.au

Hi Sean & Bryan,
The gallery upgrade sounds like it has to happen, Ive spent the past couple days looking at different galleries using both vbgallery and photopost. Both have there own advantages and disadvantages.

A concern one of our members raised was existing links if they have hosted the photo on our site and linked it into another site via the [img] bbcode, what happens.

The member database and members upload folders, will it maintain the same integrity as currently used by the Geeklog system and coppermine. That is will members still have access with existing passwords, and does the folder structure need to be modified.

We would also like the new gallery to be piclens compliant and cant seem to find any information regarding this.

Dave

Re: fordcortina.com.au

Im not an expert at the gallerys but i do use vba gallery on these forums, but i believe the link structure will be very different meaning any previous links will have to be updated, but i suggest contacting Photopost and just make sure incase they have some magical feature which does work.

Re: fordcortina.com.au

Hi Bryan, Received email from urself on the 24th and replied to it yesterday. Have not received any further emails, checked the junk mail, not there either.

The gallery dramas could become a problem, to upgrade all links would be a minor nightmare.
Maybe just an upgrade to vb3, porting all threads in from phpbb, with a new style sheet for coppermine gallery, a new homepage for a more professional introduction while Geeklog still runs the member database and logins from the back ground.
