How is this free music, and legal? It would cost them SOOO much money.

It is legal software, but in their agreement it says

Copying or distributing unauthorized data and files may violate both United States and foreign copyright laws.

and

Compliance with both copyright laws remains your responsibility

So basically its a p2p program, for music only, and their stance is they provide the software, its up to the users to keep it clean. Where have we heard THAT before?

Also says this:

Qtrax software, its privacy and security features are exposed to various security issues, and should be regarded as unsecured

And for those who really want to laugh get a load of this:

(b) automatically grant to us a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, redistribute, transmit, perform and display the information (in whole or part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in the information.

(c) acknowledge and agree that we are free to use any ideas, concepts, know-how, techniques and suggestions contained in any communications that you send for any purpose whatsoever, including but not limited to creating, manufacturing, and marketing products and/or services using such information.

I'll be staying clear of this one.

Does sound suss, but i read in the Sunday Telegraph here in sydney that the owners of this web site are joint with the music companies and they split the money from the advertising to the artists.

Dude, i still support my Artists that i really like by buying on iTunes.. but then again, like 25% actually goes to the artist, the rest is shared w/ the people that produce it, market it, and distributes it.
