Yeh I understand it too, but race and colour you cannot change but attitude and appearance you can change.
I don't see anything wrong with being this scrubbed up image for the sake of have respect from mum and keeping the peace. As soon as he gets home he can put his eyeliner and nail polish on and become all black n goth again.
Reality is, appearance counts when going for an interview for a job. You have to encourage business by looking a certain way. Reality is, there is discrimination of alsorts and this is one of them. You can't do anything about it unless you want to be jobless.
It's reality, Icy can be stubborn and not compromise by changing his look for work or maybe she will hire someone can.
In an ideal world, discrimination is non-existant but unfortunately we are not in the 'ideal' world and ppl can be judged on if they have huge spikes in their hair or a chain going from one nipple to the other or a bloody big whole in their ear. It's just the way it is.
Icy, if you don't wanna change, quit your job and go work for someone who does like your image and accepts you.
You guys are like 15-20yrs younger than I. I've done the wear what I want and don't care what anyone says phase / style and it gets you nowhere. I learnt that if you want something you have to abide by the rules. Rules of 'dress' even. Even now I don't dress like a regular mum of 35yo lol .. my taste in style won't change and hasn't over the years. 3/4 length tight denim jeans are my fave lol. I don't fit in with alot of the mums however if i have to go out for dinner, i put on a skirt and nice shoes (only other ones I have lol) and look the part. It's easy. Everyone dags around at home / school etc but when they have to get scrubbed up for a dinner or going out on the town, you change your style to make yourself more respectable. We all do it.
