How do you find an IP address for a domain?

If I have a domain name, www.whatever.com how do I find the IP address for that domain?

I know it's a lot more difficult to find an IP address for a person's ISP, because it's rarely the same... right? But is there a way to find that?

What I'm trying to do is block someone's email, and hopefully block them so they can't access my web pages, etc.

easier way:
if you have cpanel, just login to it (obvious

)

and go to webmaster tools or something like that.
there you can do almost anything!

trace domains, lookup ip's
do whois things.

track down email adresses...
so you can see the server it's referred to, or used at.
stuff like that

I've already looked in cpanel and I have to know some information up-front to do anything... but I'll check and see. I think I have a way of seeing who is who that's visited. May not work, but it's worth a try.

he or she will need to post on your forums or be on your site at the time so u can grab the IP address.

Well, shoot. I do have "bait" I can upload again.... but how would I get the IP address from there? is there a script or something I have to use?
