FTP.. and How To

I've D/L'd a FTP program, but don't know exactly how to use it to serve the forums website nor would I have a clue how to install the ClanzDarkness2 as those pages. Could someone point me in the right direction?

do you have the forum software installed already?
if so, wich one?
that might help on explaining how to install the theme.

just fill in the right information in your FTP program and connect to your site.
then browse to your forum directory, and upload what you wanted to upload.

No, I don't know how to install it. I think that's my first question. I simply have the files extracted from the zip to a file with the name, which is the ClanzDarkness2 release.

As for a site, I don't have one other than the defaut that is showing when you launch the program, is that my site? I don't know how to create a webpage with the properties for an admin section which would allow me to upgrade to anything.

This is what I'm asking, do I need to create a page or something? Do I need a host, or w/the FTP program am I the host? I have the domain name, but nothing in the field yet for a host on this new one.

I'm attempting this due to the fact that my present host has not allowed me access to upgrade to the new ClanzDarkness2 template.

Frag.. I don't have a clue how to begin making a forums page, ie the html, is that gonna be part of it, or is that included w/ the ClanzDarkness2 file and I just D/L it into my FTP page somehow?

well, first, you need a host.
i can help you to one if ya want

- and for the forums, first you need the forum software, depending on wich version you downloaded you will need one of these:

- Vbulletin (paid software)
- phpBB (free software)

then you upload that to your server trough FTP, if you want me to i'll install it for ya.

just gonna need some details about your host,

atm. i have an unlimited space & bandwidth server, so i can host you if you want me to.

Presently I have the phpbb on my other forums of which I can't access because I'm not the host. If I were the host, I wouldn't be going through all this.

The reason I questioned if I could host my own page for a short period is that I can get it hosted for free and have control over updates n such through a bioware vault connected to NWN's gaming. The forums are to compliment my server. To do this though, I need a sample running to show them for approval. I can't host the forums and the game from my server unit, there simply isn't enough mem for that; it would lag the game something bad (only have just over 1 gig ram on a amd 1800 mghz processor).

I did get a new domain name but can't attach it till I have the forums/and host... lol... and I did do a back up and save of the most recent data from the forums. Probably should do that again, huh?

I need someone to walk me through these steps so I will know this information for future reference. There's nothing I hate more than being left out n the dark or at the mercy of someone else's whims, or the lack thereof; which would seem to be the present case.

The reason I didn't go to phpbb is cause all they offer is that silver stuff. And it's sooooo nasty. I d/l'd SFTMSI ftp software, is that what I need to host? ..... and I have both versions, but plan to use the ClanzDarkness 2 with the sections I've edited, ie: top.jpg and side1.jpg and side1.gif. I still need to place some links w/icons for the NWN Fansite Kit to link to them as well... but have no clue how to do this.

Yes, I'd appreciate all the help you can give me due to the above mentioned. I have yahoo msngr, if you think it would be easier discussing this in that manner. Just let me know what you wish to do. I don't want someone to just come in and do it for me, I really need to know this material myself as I stated.
