Rep Power: 4 | What Linux to use? ok, i know the forums is quite and all, but.....
I am planning on installing a Linux O/S onto my second computer. What linux should i use? I want to test it out, its a very basic Computer, but im thinking of taking the Hard Drives out and placing it in my computer to see it run top speed.....
Please help, what linux's could i use that would help me better determine if i want to switch to linux or to stick with my Windows XP...
(I do a LOT of gaming, chating on AIM, xFire, MSN, and YIM.. and i do web and graphics..) |

Rep Power: 9 | Re: What Linux to use? well, that depends on your own taste.
there is openSUSE, which looks quite fancy,
then there is ubuntu, which seems to be the current craze.
(kubuntu = ubuntu but with KDE instead of gnome.. also a matter of personal taste.)
but in general ubuntu is just a ripoff of debian.
the one i've started with was slackware, but that's a tad more advanced.
there is also mandriva or redhat, which were my second 2 linux distro's.
right nwo i'm using gentoo, but that's a very advanced linux distro.
I suggest you do some googling on these and pick one out. |

Rep Power: 4 | Re: What Linux to use? i've seen many s/n's but i dont know its kind of hard. i honostly just want a simple one that i can try out... I want to see what games i could get to work and what programs i could use..
Dam this is the time i wish i had 2 hard drives..
and as for hating Linux i could kind of see why you dis-like it. my friend from school (is into Crisco Networking) Loves Microsoft, i cant tell you how much he loves Microsoft its pissing me off. Every time he sees me he saying Greg Google made Google, and that M$ is better than Linux, Google and the whole Open Source Communities. |
