Creating a database in XAMPP

I've been away a while falling in love with the perfect woman so I'm catching back up on learning PHP so I can perfect my dream of XHTML/PHP hybrid webdesigns.
I started with XAMPP running MySQL 5, Apache 2, and PHP5 with phpMyAdmin for a control panel (of sorts). XAMPP was a suggestion from Frag a while back and it seems to be going well. I also began with SMF instead of phpBB2. Again, Frag introduced me to this flavor and it has become my preference in the OpenSource arena.
So I've managed to set up my database and change my start page and have reached the first plateau with SMF so I want to try similar techniques with phpBB2. This is where the problem begins.

Since I am not able to use the same database to run SMF and phpBB2 I need to set up a second database, right? I'm asking because I'm dB illiterate and don't know the difference between a query and a table. lol
So, can anyone help me create a new database without tarnishing the one already in place?

Also, it's nice to be home again.

Re: asking too much of mysql?

Thanks Sean.

I'm not sure I have cPanel available by default with xampp. I use cPanel on my hosting service and I have successfully set up multiple databases by that method. I'm lost using phpMyAdmin so if you can tell me how to implement cPanel as an alternative control on my local machine that'd be an alternative I'm happy with.

Re: asking too much of mysql?

ah ok i get what u mean now this is very easy, just goto your phpmyadmin on your local machine, path might be like this:

http://localhost/phpmyadmin/index.php

You will then see a screen which says "Create new database" and this is where you create the database, for the username just use 'root' for every database.

The installation program for phpBB will then create the tables automatically during installation

Sean Sean Seany my m8! This is why I love you man. That's exactly what I needed! It's been a whole 25 seconds since I read this and I am now logged in to both SMF and phpBB2 forums on my local machine. Thanks a gob, man.

actually, you CAN use the same database. both phpbb2 and SMF are made so that would work without issues.

they just use a prefix before their table names, to avoid conflict with other things.
