Rep Power: 5 | Is this a REAL Microsoft update/fix??? I rebooted earlier and while the desktop was loading I got a generic host process error. After that the usual windows error reporting window came up, then after THAT another window appeared telling me that there was a "fix" for this problem. The site is asking me to click on a button to "validate" that I have a genuine microsoft program or whatever. It's from microsoft.com, but there's nothing in windows update when I run that.
Is the site/page below geniune? This "fix" is supposed to be to stop the generic host process from generating errors and shutting down after an windows update or something.
Will some of you techie types please check the link and tell me if this is genuine microsoft stuff? Thanks... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en |

Rep Power: 5 | Re: Is this a REAL Microsoft update/fix??? I know they have their own website, but you just can never tell---lol. I've never had an update presented this way, and this one didn't come up when I scanned for MS updates.
All's well I guess---I installed. Thanks, Frag. |

Rep Power: 5 | Re: Is this a REAL Microsoft update/fix??? I thought I did.... thanks reflex!! Oh, and in answer to your question, reflex: I've gotten bogus links to bogus microsoft pages.... there was a subdomain listed, and on first glance the main domain "looked" like microsoft. Plus I found it odd that this 'update' wasn't showing in the microsoft update list anywhere. |

Rep Power: 5 | Re: Is this a REAL Microsoft update/fix??? What do you mean exactly? I don't think I want to use Linux if most of my programs wont work with it---most of what I do is write, and design images, etc. I don't run games on this laptop. |

Rep Power: 5 | Re: Is this a REAL Microsoft update/fix??? Okay---I heard it was better for programmers, gamers, and hackers. lol I'm not skilled in any of those. Although I'd like to learn enough programming to make Flash actionscript easier to implement. |
