Internet Security

Hey guys, got a question. As some may know the Australian Government is introducing the MISC card for home land security. To do this, they want us lodge our personal details via the net just to get a form to fill out. This form will then be screened by ASIO and other departments to see if were ok or trrorists and **** like that. What I want to know is this. They the site is encrypted but I dont believe em, the site doesnt have the little pad lock thing in the corner. So, the question is this.If you were to run a programm to make your site secure and safe for personal details what programm would you use.And can a encrypted site be hacked to gain these details..thanks guys...monk

Re: Internet Security

any site can be hacked, and nothing is safe on the net.

Microsoft spend millions a year on security on there own sites and so would the australian government.
If your asking if the goverment would keep our personal info private, your guess is as good as mine.

Hope this helps

Re: Internet Security

Kinda Sean, but I had a blow up with my Boss today about it and he's now quoting some kind of encryption programm 5.21 blah blah.I have no idea what he's on about and I would like to know more about what encrypted text means. If he's on the right track about this, what I would like to know is, what encryption programm is the best, if there is one?

Re: Internet Security

here is the explanation of encryption from an online dictionary i visit.

Quote:
The translation of data into a secret code. Encryption is the most effective way to achieve data security. To read an encrypted file, you must have access to a secret key or password that enables you to decrypt it. Unencrypted data is called plain text ; encrypted data is referred to as cipher text.

There are two main types of encryption: asymmetric encryption (also called public-key encryption) and symmetric encryption.
As for the best encryption there is no one single software better than any other. Every site is different and needs to be secured differently so we r talking about thousands of different safe guards (programs)
