Allot of the forum software out there are all very near eachother in features and performance.Premade themes have been increasing for SMF (It's dead easy to make a theme in SMF). To me (because I have to use SMF and Vbulletin and phpbb still for different communities) SMF is the best for documentation on integrating the forum into you site. It took me 5 minutes and I had a portal with SMF. That's before I even knew anything about SMF. I still stand by my opinion that SMF is better because it's free, easy to modify, and no pesky licenses. Also when there is an update for SMF I don't seem to need to upgrade my theme. |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: Seriously Invision Power or JelSoft? Performance is a huge issue for large forums, vBulletin handles forums with 1 million posts alot better than phpBB2 (phpBB3 and SMF i dont know) But i do know the largest forums on the net all use vBulletin.
You proberly dont need to update your theme as the updates are mostly patch fixes, the reason vbulletin needs alot of modifications to the templates when they release an update is because new features are added all the time. Like in vBulletin 3.7.x hooks were added to the templates to allow admins to add advertisements from the administration panel you can also add them on rotations. Profile comments were also added.
Integrating a forum into your site is pretty much the same for all forums, its more about quering the database than the actual forum code. |

Rep Power: 7 | Re: Seriously Invision Power or JelSoft? Sean, very true. SMF _IS_ fast and can handle allot of queries.. but they also offer different features but they also have allot of the same types of features. ALthough I'm pretty sure that vbulletin has better SEO than SMF |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: Seriously Invision Power or JelSoft? Actually default vbulletin has crappy SEO, i had to install vBSEO - vBulletin SEO to get better SEO results which costs another $160USD lol |

Rep Power: 10 | Re: Seriously Invision Power or JelSoft? The best script with SEO which is free i still reckon is wordpress, www.bluepearl-blog.com has more incoming google hits than this site and ive not really done anything to the site :S
And the only reason this site gets alot of vBulletin traffic is because vBulletin Templates is number 1 for the search terms (vbulletin, templates) bluepearl design itself is ranked like 30 for these search terms and would proberly only get referring hits from vBulletin.org Forum - The Official vBulletin Resource! if it wasnt for vBulletin Templates |
